This year, the Jakšić stonemasonry workshop proudly celebrated 110 years of continuous work in stone, a tradition carried today by four generations of the Jakšić family. We chose to commemorate this exceptional anniversary at the world’s most important stone fair – Marmomacc in Verona, held from 25–29 September 2013, where our exhibition space attracted significant attention from architects, designers and industry professionals.
The entire stand concept was dedicated to the workshop’s timeline – 110 years carved in stone. A continuous stone line stretched through the whole space, symbolising the longevity and continuity of our family craft. Along this line were engraved the most important dates and achievements, starting with 1903, after which we placed the classical sculpture of the Angel created by meštar Lovre Jakšić, the grandfather of today’s owners.
The stone line was shaped so that it transformed into different functional elements: a bench, a reception counter, and finally into a pedestal for the modern Angel sculpture by academic sculptor Lovre Jakšić, creating a dialogue between tradition and contemporary artistic expression.
A special highlight was the stone wall, with one segment opening like a stone shell to reveal a painting by academic artist Dina Jakšić, merging stone with expressive colour and emphasising the artistic identity of the stand.
We also exhibited a stone table featuring our company logo (a stylized capital rendered in negative), along with several other stone design elements demonstrating our unique approach to stone furniture.
One of the showstoppers was a stone dress worn by a model, designed by Ida Stipčić Jakšić, merging fashion, sculpture and stone into an unexpected artistic statement.
Participation at Marmomacc proved highly successful: the stand design was recognised as one of the most innovative, visitor turnout was exceptional, and many new contacts were made — resulting in further expansion of our workshop into international markets.
In this way, our 110th anniversary was celebrated exactly as it should be — through stone, design and enduring tradition.
