Tomb for the Šupraha Family
- the tomb for the Šupraha family stands out as one of the most striking and symbolically charged pieces among our recent works. Designed by architect Ivan Šupraha, M.Arch., in collaboration with Dražen Jakšić, it represents a powerful architectural and emotional statement that blends modern minimalism with deep symbolic meaning. At first glance, the design appears simple – a pure geometric form of a rectangular block, carved from white Brač stone. Yet within this simplicity lies its strength and monumentality. The central feature is a fissure running through the entire tomb, as if the stone itself has been naturally split. This deliberate crack carries a profound symbolism – a metaphor for a life interrupted, a moment where the earthly separates from the eternal, yet remains bound within the same material. The contrast between clean, sharp lines and the dramatic break creates a tension that gives the monument its distinctive modern and sculptural character. The surfaces are precisely finished, smooth and refined, emphasising the contrast with the raw texture of the split. At the front, stone vases are positioned with meticulous balance. Their minimalist design and placement near the fissure reinforce the sense of calm and visual harmony. Crafted from large monolithic blocks of white Brač stone, the tomb conveys a feeling of permanence and strength. In its purity and restraint, it radiates quiet dignity and deep emotion. The Šupraha family tomb exemplifies how architectural thinking, when united with artistic sensitivity, can transcend function and become a spiritual and emotional monument to memory and continuity.
