Tomb for the Žuvela Family
- this tomb, located in Vela Luka on the island of Korčula, represents a contemporary approach to tomb and headstone design, where simplicity and precision evoke a sense of elevation and peace. The concept of the tomb is based on two clean stone slabs forming the structure’s foundation. Their angled, slanted edges create an impression of lightness and refinement while maintaining the monument’s dignity and presence. Through the creation of the tomb, careful proportions were considered to achieve a perfect balance between geometric simplicity and symbolic meaning. This white stone tomb radiates serenity, while its sloping planes and clean linesemphasise an upward movement — a symbolic gesture of spiritual ascent. The headstone follows the same design philosophy: minimalist, harmonious, and unobtrusive, with a dedicated surface for inscriptions that commemorate the members of the family. Its quiet form draws attention not through complexity, but through purity and balance. The production of the headstone and tomb required a high level of craftsmanship and a deep understanding of stone as a material. Every line and surface was precisely shaped to reflect harmony and meaning. This tomb is the result of a collaboration with the renowned conceptual artist Gorki Žuvela, whose distinctive artistic sensibility brings contemporary symbolism and depth into the traditional language of stone memorials. The outcome is a composition that merges art, architecture, and stone craftsmanship into a single, serene whole.
