Tomb for Marin Šuica

- this tomb, located in Čakovec, is one of the most powerful and emotional examples of contemporary tomb and headstone design. It is entirely dedicated to the memory of a young tennis player, Marin Šuica, whose life was tragically cut short at an early age. The tomb consists of a single, dominant element – a massive flat stone slab made of white stone, whose pure surface conveys simplicity and strength. Within the stone, there is a negative silhouette of a boy playing tennis, symbolising absence, loss, and interrupted youth. The void itself becomes the central motif, transforming emptiness into emotion. During the creation of this tomb, special care was given to proportions and the balance between solid and empty space. The headstone radiates peace and dignity, while the fracture through the centre of the stone powerfully represents the idea of a life broken in its prime. This artistic rupture is both a visual and emotional statement. A delicate detail comes from the stone tennis balls placed around the base of the tomb — quiet reminders of the game that ended too soon, and of memories that remain. This tomb and its headstone were designed by Dražen Jakšić, the owner of our workshop, whose artistic vision combines modern design, strong symbolism, and deep emotion. The result is a sculptural work in stone, a dignified monument that preserves memory and speaks of fragility, love, and eternity.
