Stone House in Milna, Brač Island / Architect Vinko Peračić

- amidst the pine forests of Milna on the island of Brač stands a contemporary stone house that blends architecture, nature and material in perfect harmony. Designed by architect Vinko Peračić, the project exudes clarity and elegance – a modern expression deeply rooted in the island’s stone-building heritage. All stonemasonry works were executed by our workshop under the expert direction of Dražen Jakšić, from planning and preparation to fine finishing and installation. The result is a seamless fusion of natural stone for interior and exterior, where every surface reveals precision, texture and craftsmanship. The exterior is dominated by a stone façade crafted from white Brač stone. Its finely lined, grooved surface adds depth and movement, creating a play of light and shadow that shifts throughout the day with the surrounding pines. The architectural form of the house is pure and geometric, free of decorative excess, allowing the stone itself to define the character of the design. A distinctive feature of the outdoor space is a stone column made using the same hand-finished technique as the façade. Carved into its surface is the hand imprint of the owner’s son, a poetic and emotional detail that symbolises legacy, belonging and connection to place. The imprint was sculpted by academic artist Lovre Jakšić, transforming this structural element into a subtle piece of art. Inside, stone details in the interior continue the visual and tactile language of the exterior. The house feels calm, natural and timeless — a perfect example of how stone for villas and houses can enrich modern architecture while preserving the authenticity of traditional craftsmanship. This villa in Milna shows how a stone façade can embody both simplicity and sophistication, turning natural stone into the defining voice of contemporary Mediterranean design.
