Stone House in Meje, Split / Architect Lada Vrdoljak
- this stone house in Meje, Split, is a remarkable example of contemporary residential architecture that blends luxury, tradition, and craftsmanship. Designed by architect Lada Vrdoljak, all stonemasonry work – from concept and design to final execution – was completed by our workshop under the direction of Dražen Jakšić. Commissioned by an international investor, the villa reflects elegance and precision in every detail. The primary material is Brač stone, known for its light tone, strength, and timeless beauty. Stone is used throughout the project – from the stone façade and exterior design to the stone interior and exterior finishes, creating a harmonious and cohesive architectural composition. A key feature of the design are the stone columns, which define the outdoor spaces and add a sense of luxury and monumentality. Their classic simplicity contrasts with the villa’s modern geometry, bridging traditional craftsmanship and contemporary architecture. Another striking element is the series of round stone windows, giving the house a distinctive character and a refined Mediterranean identity. The stone façade combines honed and bush-hammered finishes, creating a subtle interplay of light and shadow. This textured approach enhances depth and tactility, while the precisely executed joints and discreet stone profiles add refinement. The curved stone balcony introduces softness into the linear composition, serving as both a sculptural and architectural accent. Inside, Brač stone continues through stone floors, wall claddings, and carefully crafted stone details, resulting in a luxurious stone interior design defined by calmness and natural elegance. Every transition and surface is executed with precision, merging functionality with aesthetic purity. This villa demonstrates how stone for villas and houses, especially natural stone for interiors and exteriors, can transform architecture into a lasting expression of artistry – where material, design, and craftsmanship coexist in perfect harmony.
