Work on one of the most compelling stone houses in Pučišća has been successfully completed, marking yet another excellent collaboration between our workshop and architect Damir Rako, well known for projects that harmoniously combine traditional Dalmatian building methods with contemporary architectural expression.
Architect Damir Rako is recognised for his ability to reinterpret Mediterranean heritage through refined, modern forms. In his projects, stone is never just a material – it is a defining element of the space. Across several collaborations, including this house in Pučišća, Rako has demonstrated a deep understanding of the qualities of Brač stone and the architectural identity of the island. This shared sensibility is the foundation of our long-standing and successful partnership.
In this project, Rako envisioned architecture that highlights the strength and beauty of natural stone through a dialogue of rough and smooth textures. Our workshop, led by Dražen Jakšić, executed all stonework from detailed planning to final installation. The façade is especially striking: sections built in traditional dry-stone technique alternate with finely polished surfaces, creating a dynamic interplay of shadow and light.
The exterior is dominated by white Brač stone used in flooring, staircases and architectural details. Finely polished surfaces provide elegance, while naturally textured elements emphasise traditional craftsmanship. One of the highlights is the fully stone-clad outdoor summer kitchen with a modern stone fireplace that unites functionality with clean, contemporary lines.
The interior follows the same aesthetic — stone floors, wall cladding and details such as a sculpted stone washbasin create a calm and sophisticated atmosphere. Brač stone brings brightness and warmth to the space while emphasising the contemporary architectural character.
This project once again confirms how the synergy between a skilled architect and a master stonemasonry workshop can result in a home with a unique identity, where stone becomes the key carrier of character and spatial harmony.
