Monumental Sculpture by Lovre Jakšić Installed in the New Split Maternity Hospital

The sculptor Lovre Jakšić, one of the most prominent contemporary artists from the island of Brač, has received another significant recognition: his sculpture “Mother and Child” was selected by an expert jury to be installed at the entrance of the new Maternity Ward of the University Hospital Centre Split (KBC Split) – the central maternity facility for the entire Dalmatia region.

The initiative was led by the Rotary Club Split, under the coordination of Damir Roja. All the stone material was donated by Jadrankamen, while Jakšić contributed the artistic concept and the complete execution of the work as a generous gift.

The installation process was exceptionally challenging. The hospital floor had not been designed to support such a heavy load, so special supporting structures and transport mechanisms had to be engineered to safely bring the sculpture inside and position it at the main entrance.

The unveiling ceremony was remarkably festive. Numerous distinguished speakers from the cultural and medical sectors praised the project and Jakšić’s sculptural expression, while musical performances added an emotional and celebratory atmosphere.

Today, the sculpture welcomes every visitor entering the maternity ward, creating a space filled with symbolism, warmth, and hope — a tribute to every new beginning and every family embarking on its journey.
