Green Cathedral in Prološac – Architect Edo Šegvić
- one of the most distinctive projects carried out by our workshop is the "Green Cathedral" in Prološac – a contemporary sacral structure of exceptional symbolism and architectural value, entirely made of white Brač stone. This open-air cathedral, designed without a roof, thoughtfully unites natural space with spiritual meaning, leaving the sky above worshippers as a symbol of God's presence and eternity. The project was designed by renowned Croatian architect Edo Šegvić, while all stone elements were produced and executed by our workshop under the leadership of Dražen Jakšić. Due to the planned opening on the Feast of the Assumption, one of the most important days in the Christian calendar, the timeframe for construction was extremely short. The entire stone structure, including all symbolic and architectural components, was completed in just 28 days. We overcame this challenge through precise planning, excellent team coordination, and the full commitment of our craftsmen, who worked in intensive shifts to meet the deadline. The "Green Cathedral" incorporates all the essential features of Christian sacral architecture, shaped through a contemporary minimalistic approach. The entrance is marked by a stone bell gable and a carved rosette, while the interior includes a stone altar, tabernacle, and baptismal font. A central element of the space is the series of fourteen stone columns, symbolising fourteen centuries of Christianity. All elements are finely polished, highlighting the purity of form and the luminous quality of the material. Nestled in a wooded environment, the "Green Cathedral" merges spiritual and natural atmospheres, creating a unique open-air place for prayer, reflection, and community. This project stands as one of the most striking examples of contemporary sacral architecture in Croatia and one of the most meaningful achievements of our workshop, where stone, faith, nature, and modern design come together in perfect harmony.
