Modern Stone Villa in Split / Architect Vjeko Ivanišević
- this modern stone villa in Split, designed by architect Vjeko Ivanišević, represents one of the most remarkable examples of contemporary Mediterranean architecture. The project combines precision, balance, and craftsmanship — every detail of the stonemasonry work was executed by our workshop under the direction of Dražen Jakšić, from concept to final realization. The design is defined by the extensive use of stone for the façade and stone for exterior design, creating a striking visual contrast and dynamic play of light and shadow. The dominant material is Brač white limestone, known for its fine texture and elegant brightness. Darker Bedonia stone accents emphasize the rhythm and depth of the façade, producing a refined and balanced composition. The result is a stone façade of exceptional precision and timeless sophistication. The villa is entirely clad in natural stone, without any plaster surfaces, giving it a monolithic and enduring character. Glass structures connect the interior and exterior, allowing reflections of light on stone and water — particularly around the indoor swimming pool, where Brač stone in interior design adds warmth and luxury. In the outdoor area, stone floors and stone wall claddings harmonize with modern concrete and glass pergolas, merging architecture with landscape. A distinctive feature of the project are the thresholds, handcrafted using the martelina technique – a traditional hammer finish that gives the stone surface unique texture and depth. The stone processing varies throughout the villa, adapting to function and purpose, creating a perfect balance between utility and elegance. One of the most interesting exterior details is a freestanding stone canopy, entirely made of Brač stone. The structure features large openings on the top that cast light patterns on the stone floor, changing throughout the day. This sculptural element, designed and built entirely by our workshop, transforms sunlight into architecture. Inside, natural stone for interior and exterior is carefully selected and crafted in multiple finishes — from finely honed flooring to hand-carved thresholds and details. The stone details in the interior and the minimalist geometry of the building make this villa a true symbol of modern architecture with stone, where precision craftsmanship and timeless materials come together in harmony.
