Stone House in Milna, Island of Brač / Architect Jerko Rošin

- located in the picturesque setting of Milna on the island of Brač, this stone house designed by architect Jerko Rošin is a perfect example of harmony between traditional Mediterranean architecture and modern design. The project demonstrates how stone for façades and stone columns can define the character of a residence and express both elegance and strength. All stonemasonry works were carefully designed and executed by our workshop under the direction of Dražen Jakšić, ensuring that each detail – from concept to completion – reflects precision, craftsmanship, and respect for material. The result is a home that radiates warmth, durability, and authenticity. The most striking architectural feature are the stone columns – tall, elegant, and proportionally refined. Their monumental presence is enhanced by profiled bases and capitals, with subtle stone blocks that add visual balance. These details make the columns distinctive: partially classical in form, yet inherently modern, achieving a timeless architectural balance. The stone façade combines sections of natural stone with plaster surfaces, creating a refined contrast that emphasises texture and light. The predominant treatment is the hand-chiselled “martelina” finish, which gives the stone surface a tactile richness and dynamic play of light and shadow throughout the day. For the exterior spaces, stone for outdoor design has been used for stone claddings, stone flooring, and architectural details around the pool and terraces. The inclusion of traditional dry-stone walls enriches the landscape composition, connecting the villa with its natural surroundings and local heritage. The consistent use of natural stone for interior and exterior defines the entire project, with surface finishes adapted to each area’s function. The result is a luxury stone interior and exterior in perfect harmony — a home where craftsmanship and design meet Mediterranean authenticity. This stone villa in Milna embodies the timeless beauty of stone for villas and houses, proving that natural materials, when handled with care and expertise, never go out of style.
