Stone House in Split – Gripe / Architect Lada Vrdoljak
- in the heart of Split, in the Gripe district, stands a contemporary stone house that unites two separate buildings into one architectural whole. Designed by architect Lada Vrdoljak, the project seamlessly combines modern architecture with stone and the traditional elements of Dalmatian building heritage. All stonemasonry works, from the conceptual stage to final execution, were carried out by our workshop under the expert supervision of Dražen Jakšić, ensuring precision, craftsmanship, and a consistent level of excellence throughout. This villa is a refined example of how natural stone for interior and exterior can shape the identity of a home, offering durability, elegance, and timeless beauty. The exterior features a distinctive stone façade that combines two surface treatments. The upper part is executed in the hand-finished technique known as “punto mlata”, while other surfaces are finely polished. The most striking element is a large curved wall entirely clad in stone, with each slab precisely shaped to follow the arc – a technically demanding process realised in our workshop. Round stone windows and stone columns at the entrance further enrich the composition. The façade and exterior details are entirely made of white Brač stone, including the stone flooring and the outer wall crafted in the traditional bunja texture, adding depth and structure to the design. The interior combines Brač stone with imported Italian marble, used across stone floors, walls, and decorative elements. This blend results in a luxurious stone interior design that balances warmth, light, and modernity. Every detail – from stone claddings to precisely crafted transitions between surfaces – reflects a commitment to quality and minimalism. This villa stands as a perfect example of how stone for villas and houses can be used to achieve both contemporary style and lasting Mediterranean character, where stone itself becomes the essence of architectural expression.
