Stone House in Pučišća / Architect Damir Rako
- this stone house in Pučišća is a fine example of how modern architecture with stone can merge traditional Dalmatian craftsmanship with contemporary design. The project was designed by architect Damir Rako, while all stonemasonry work – from concept to execution – was carried out by our workshop under the guidance of Dražen Jakšić. The house combines the textures of Brač stone and Benkovac stone, creating a strong visual contrast and a striking artistic play on the façade. Part of the façade is built in the dry stone technique, while the other part is finely honed, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. This combination respects local tradition while giving the architecture a modern and elegant character. The exterior is dominated by white Brač stone, appearing on the bush-hammered stone floor, stone stairs, and details such as window sills and stone planters. The fine-honed finish gives the surfaces a refined yet natural appearance. The stone paving around the pool is also finely honed, ensuring a sophisticated look and a pleasant tactile feel. A highlight of the project is the outdoor summer kitchen, entirely clad in stone, featuring clean, modern lines. The space includes a stone fireplace, whose solid form and precise craftsmanship perfectly balance aesthetics and function. Wooden details add warmth and contrast to the cool elegance of the stone. The interior showcases luxury stone interior design, featuring stone floors, stone claddings, a stone washbasin, and a stone fireplace that together create a harmonious and timeless atmosphere. Brač stone in interior design brings brightness and warmth, while stone details in the interior underline its minimalist elegance. This project proves how stone for villas and houses can define a villas identity. The combination of natural stone for interiors, exquisite craftsmanship, and authentic Mediterranean design turned this house in Pučišćan into a showcase of stone interior living that embodies both luxury and tradition. The Norwegian investors recognised the beauty and value of Brač stone, turning their vision into a lasting example of refined stone architecture on the Adriatic coast.
