In progress – monumental tomb of the Sisters of Mercy

In our Jakšić Stonemasonry Workshop, a monumental tomb is currently being created for the convent of the Sisters of Mercy of Saint Vincent de Paul. This work is the result of exceptional collaboration with Sister Zdravka Milić, an academic painter who graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome. Her conceptual design was transformed by our workshop into a stone creation that unites faith, art, and the tradition of stonemasonry on Brač.

At the centre of the tomb is the motif of the Resurrection, while a red line runs through the whiteness of the white Brač stone, symbolising the blood of Christ. This strong symbolism is further emphasised by mosaics – symbols of the Precious Blood, Resurrection, and eternal life. The mosaics form a striking contrast to the pure whiteness of the stone, turning the tomb into a true work of sacred art.

Our workshop specialises in the construction of tombs and headstones from white Brač stone, combining centuries-old stoneworking tradition with modern and individual approaches. Precise letter carving, unique details, and custom-made solutions ensure that each tomb is one of a kind, deeply connected to spiritual or personal meaning.

This monumental tomb stands as a lasting memorial and an artistic expression of faith, symbolism, and eternal life, while confirming that tomb construction can also be an act of supreme sculptural and artistic creation.

You can view all our tombs and headstones in the gallery of works, where each creation tells its own story in stone.
