“Tripun Bokanić” Awards – a Double Recognition for the Jakšić Family

At this year’s international stonemasonry symposium, the Stonemasonry School of Pučišća, in collaboration with the Oris House of Architecture, presented the prestigious “Tripun Bokanić” awards, honouring the most notable achievements in stone design. Named after the renowned Renaissance and Baroque stonemason from Brač, the awards symbolise excellence, innovation and the lasting value of craftsmanship in stone.

The expert jury consisted of academician Nikola Bašić, professor Nenad Fabijanić, academician Dinko Kovačić and master stonemason Zdravko Matijašić, leading Croatian authorities in architecture and stonemasonry. They awarded five recognitions in five categories, and we are especially proud that the Jakšić family received awards in two categories, reaffirming once again their continuous dedication to the art of stone design.

A major exhibition of all submitted and awarded works was organised in Pučišća, and in December the same collection was presented to the Zagreb public at the Oris House of Architecture, attracting great interest from architects, designers and stone enthusiasts.

In the category of best architectural achievement in stone, the first prize was awarded to architect Vinko Peračić for the multi-residential house “Dević” in Sutivan. The award highlighted the striking carved stone façade, executed by the Jakšić workshop. This technique – one of our most recognised – is based on a series of precise, deep grooves in the stone that create a shifting surface effect depending on the angle of light. This interplay of shadow and reflection gives the façade a dynamic and contemporary character.

The second award for the Jakšić family was won by painter Dina Jakšić Pavasović, who received the first prize in the souvenir category for her modular stone candleholder Reflexio. This innovative object made of Brač stone allows its elements to be combined and separated, adapting the form and function of the candleholder to the moment, ambience or desired intensity of light. Reflexio unites sculptural expression, functionality and the distinctive aesthetics of Brač stone – a combination that impressed the jury.

These two recognitions once again confirm the importance of the Jakšić family within the contemporary stone-design scene and continue the long tradition of excellence of our island.
