Our long-standing collaboration with renowned Split designer Stjepko Rošin has resulted in numerous successful projects that blend contemporary stone design, the tradition of Brač stonemasonry and innovative spatial solutions. One of our earliest collaborations was presented several years ago at the international stone fair Marmomac in Verona, where Stjepko and our workshop exhibited together. A particular highlight was the stone counter, which now forms part of the interior of the Jakšić Gallery in Split, demonstrating the lasting value of such artistic and craft-based partnerships.
Inspired by this earlier design, Stjepko created a new conceptual project – a modular stone wall for a private house in Donji Humac on the island of Brač. The work features an exceptionally demanding form based on a sequence of interconnected circular modules that create rhythm, movement and visual softness in space. The modular concept allowed precise assembly, while our stonemasonry workshop faithfully executed all structural and aesthetic requirements, turning this idea into a functional and striking architectural element.
Although stone is traditionally perceived as a rigid and heavy material, this design gives it an entirely new dimension. The wall appears almost fluid, with airy lines that soften its mass and create a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. At the centre of the project, it is particularly interesting to highlight that such a form could be successfully implemented in public spaces, where the combination of aesthetics and functionality would be equally impressive.
The wall’s functionality goes beyond its decorative character. Thanks to the carefully carved recesses and the negative spaces created by the circular modules, the wall becomes a natural holder for stone planters and integrated lighting. The openings are perfectly suited for stone flower pots, making them an organic part of the overall design and enhancing the exterior even further.
This project once again demonstrates that contemporary stone design can be highly creative, innovative and multifunctional, while remaining deeply rooted in the tradition of fine stonemasonry. Our collaboration with Stjepko Rošin continues to inspire us to push the boundaries of stone as a material and to create objects that elevate the spaces they inhabit.
