The Jakšić stonemasonry workshop participated once again at the prestigious Marmomacc stone fair in Verona, one of the world’s leading events dedicated to stone, architecture and design. This marks our third exhibition, underscoring the long-standing recognition of our workshop and the international interest in our approach to stone design.
In collaboration with renowned architect Jerko Rošin, the exhibition space was conceived as an imaginary house. Floor plans were drawn on the ground, wall outlines indicated household elements, and our stone furniture and objects were placed within them to simulate a real living environment. This setup allowed visitors to experience the practical and aesthetic application of stone in various areas of the home.
A highlight of the exhibition was the stone bench by Dina Jakšić, crafted from two carefully designed elements. The seating part was made of white Brač stone, while the triangular side table, inserted as a contrasting module, was carved from Rasotica stone, also originating from Brač. The interplay between the two stone types created a harmonious composition and emphasised the sculptural quality of the bench.
The stone counter, shaped through modular thinking, presented a fluid and complex form that demanded exceptional precision in stone fabrication.
The stone shelf by architect Stjepko Rošin featured a stable stone core, while the wooden components surrounding it were entirely movable. By repositioning these parts, the overall composition and function of the shelf transforms, making it an interactive and visually dynamic object.
Another interesting element was the stone corner-piece (kantunal), originally designed by conceptual artist Gorki Žuvela and executed by our workshop for an earlier exhibition. Its sculptural strength fitted perfectly within this year’s concept.
The exhibition also featured the stone window by Dražen Jakšić, carved from a single block, with the natural rough stone texture – the outer stone crust – preserved to serve as a bold and authentic frame.
Visitors were particularly drawn to the stone table designed by Dražen Jakšić, with a stylised capital — the logo of the workshop — integrated into its centre. Technically challenging to create, the table was one of the standout pieces. The artistic narrative was further enriched by the torso sculpture by Lovre Jakšić.
Participating at Marmomacc once again showcased our dedication to innovation, the strength of tradition and the wide possibilities stone offers in designing contemporary stone furniture, stone interior elements and refined architectural details.
