A New Jakšić Gallery in Split – Expanding the Artistic Story from Donji Humac

We have opened a new Jakšić Gallery in Split, giving our long-standing artistic work another important exhibition space. After building our first gallery in 2008 in the courtyard of our family home in Donji Humac — located right next to our studios and large stone workshop — the time naturally came to bring our artistic practice closer to the city and its audience. Six years later, the gallery in Split was opened as the next logical step in the development of our family’s artistic story.

The new gallery is located within the business premises of the Sisters of Mercy Convent, a large architectural complex enriched with stone elements crafted by our workshop over a period of more than twenty years. Because of this deep connection, choosing this location for our Split gallery felt like the most natural decision.

The opening ceremony was festive and emotional. Renowned architect and dear friend Jerko Rošin officially opened the gallery with heartfelt words about the Jakšić family, our contribution to art, and our dedication to the craft of stone. The event was further enriched by members of the Rotary Club Split, who marked the opening with song.

Many distinguished guests from Split’s cultural and public life attended, including sculptors Kuzma Kovačić and Matko Mijić, the Mayor Ivo Baldasar, and the President of the City Council Boris Čurković.

The new gallery in Split showcases sculptures, paintings, jewellery, stone objects, functional stone items, souvenirs, and everything that unmistakably carries the signature of the Jakšić family, created in our studios and workshop on the island of Brač.

With the opening of this gallery, the art of the Jakšić family has gained a new meeting place with the public, strengthening the connection between Brač’s tradition and the cultural life of the city of Split.
