Completed Unique Tomb for the Brešković – Suja Family

Another remarkable project from our workshop has been completed at the local cemetery — the tomb of the Brešković family, known by the name “Suja”. After an extensive process of design, crafting, and final finishing, the tomb is now fully completed and handed over to the family with pride and deep respect.

From the very beginning, this project carried a strong emotional and symbolic dimension. The Brešković family has been connected to stone extraction and stonework for generations, and this lifelong tradition served as the main inspiration for the final design. The finished composition fully reflects this enduring bond between the family and stone — a material that has shaped their identity and everyday life.

The central visual feature is a monumental upright stone slab combining smooth and rough textures. The family name “Suja” is placed within a section that imitates a natural stone break, appearing as though it has emerged from within the material itself. This design approach was conceived by Dražen Jakšić, inspired by traditional stone-splitting techniques.

A specially carved segment with relief grooves is positioned on the horizontal tombstone, evoking the marks of ancient hand–stonework. This gives the entire tomb a strong, authentic character and an artistic expression that goes beyond classical forms. Such an approach allowed the finished monument to be both contemporary and minimalist, yet deeply rooted in the family’s history.

With the completion of this project, we once again confirm that stone craftsmanship can become a profoundly personal, narrative work — one that preserves memories while honouring the values that shaped generations. The “Suja” tomb now stands as a dignified, distinctive, and unique memorial to a family whose life has always been intertwined with stone.
