Stone Altar in the Church of St. Fabian and St. Sebastian – Designed by Academic Sculptor Lovre Jakšić
- in the Church of St. Fabian and St. Sebastian in Donji Humac on the island of Brač, a new stone altar has been installed.
The altar was designed by academic sculptor Lovre Jakšić, and entirely crafted and installed by our stone workshop Jakšić.
It was made from white Brač stone, renowned for its durability, refined texture, and timeless elegance. This altar represents a donation from our workshop and our sculptor to the parish of St. Fabian and St. Sebastian — a gesture of gratitude and connection to our community and its spiritual heritage. Projects of this kind carry a special value for us, as they combine art, faith, and the centuries-old tradition of Brač stonemasonry. The design of the altar balances simplicity with a contemporary sculptural expression. Smooth surfaces and gentle curves soften the weight of the stone, giving it a visually light form. On the front face, a subtle IHS symbol is engraved, representing faith and divine light. Our team completed the entire process — from altar design and technical drawings to stone altar fabrication and final on-site installation. By combining experience, precision, and modern technology, we ensure the highest level of craftsmanship and finish. We provide both design and production of stone altars, ambo pulpits, baptismal fonts, and other sacred stone sculptures. Our work focuses on sacral buildings – churches, chapels, and sanctuaries – where stone becomes a lasting symbol of faith, harmony, and beauty. The altar in Donji Humac demonstrates how stone elements for churches can unite the tradition of Brač craftsmanship with contemporary design. This project once again confirms our workshop’s dedication to creating works that enrich sacred spaces and preserve the cultural and spiritual identity of Brač.
