White Brač Stone in Paris – Our Workshop’s Work for the Croatian Mission Church
- the stonemasonry workshop Jakšić is recognised far beyond the borders of Croatia. We are especially proud of the project for the Croatian Mission Church in Paris, where we carried out the complete interior stone furnishing – a stone altar, ambo, baptismal font, and tabernacle. The project was designed in collaboration with a Croatian architect based in France, and fully executed in our workshop. This work confirms the value of white Brač stone abroad, especially in the context of sacral architecture. The altar was created in a classical form, featuring Croatian interlace – a recognisable symbol of national identity, commonly used in early Croatian art. The interlace motif symbolises eternity, unity and the enduring presence of faith – making it an ideal motif for stone altars and ambos in sacral buildings. The ambo follows the same logic, standing freely with a prominently carved interlace motif that creates a strong visual and spiritual link between the word and faith. The stone tabernacle is designed in a symbolic form – two stone elements shaped like hands holding the Holy Eucharist. This shape symbolises protection, devotion, and the sacredness of the moment of encounter with Christ. The baptismal font is inspired by the famous Baptistery of Prince Višeslav, one of the most important early Christian artefacts of Croatian heritage. Dating back to the 9th century, the original font symbolises the Christian roots of the Croatian people. Our replica faithfully reflects its stylistic and symbolic elements, adapted to a contemporary liturgical setting. With this project, the Jakšić stonemasonry workshop once again demonstrates how tradition, quality and contemporary design can be harmoniously combined to create meaningful works for sacral spaces. White Brač stone in Paris stands as a powerful bridge between art, faith and national heritage.
